This book organizes resistance exercise deployed in domestic in 1800s and 1900s. In academia, popular movements are described focusing 1894 Peasant War, Tonghak nongmin undong(東學農民運動). However, the author thinks three kinds of flow in the popular movements in this period. First is from revolt of the people to peasant war, and is led to Yŏnghaktang movement(英學黨運動). Second is from Myŏnghwajŏk(明火賊) to Hwalbindang(活貧黨) and third is led to Hangjo undong(抗租運動).
